The Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill, 2025 was introduced, cleared by both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, authorizing the creation of this institution The bill includes a corpus fund of ₹550–555 crore to be disbursed over 2025–2030

The institute will be mentored by IIM Ahmedabad, one of India’s most prestigious management schools, ensuring high academic and administrative benchmarks from inception. In the interim, classes are expected to operate from a temporary campus provided by the Assam government, while a permanent 574-bigha campus is under development in Palasbari, Kamrup district
